The title Consumed functions in a dual manner, as Bilodeau explores the implications of consumer culture and is himself consumed in the processing of our role within it—through his life and art making practice. For Bilodeau, painting is wedded to this exploration, diving into contemporary visual culture, social responsibility and art historical riffs. Forgoing the traditional 'white cube' gallery space, Island Weiss Gallery is a boutique, by-appointment-only exhibition space located in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Established art dealer and arts delegate Island Weiss offers a custom, one-on-one service, bringing his 30+ years of experience and knowledge to his long list of repeat and distinguished clientele.
 
Specializing in emerging to mid-career contemporary artists, the gallery focuses primarily on painting and sculpture. Island Weiss Gallery also showcases secondary market artworks, particularly 19th and 20th century American and European paintings.

About Island Weiss

Drawn to art at an early age, Island Weiss attended the Corcoran School of Art in his hometown of Washington, D.C., and later the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he graduated with a degree in sculpture and founded his first gallery at the age of 22.
 
In 1980, Weiss partnered with the late visionary Tony Goldman, launching Greene Space Gallery in New York City. A pioneer in the burgeoning SoHo art scene, the gallery was among the first to showcase visual and performing artists under one roof.
 
Weiss began acquiring and dealing in contemporary and 19th and 20th century British watercolors in Middleburg, Virginia before teaming up with Hollis Taggart Gallery in Georgetown, DC to spearhead their newly developed contemporary division. He then played a key role in bringing the gallery to New York City's Upper East Side.
 
In 1995, Weiss opened his own gallery in Manhattan. The inaugural exhibition featured an extraordinary collection of paintings by American painter Martin Johnson Heade, establishing Weiss as a dealer specializing in both American and European 19th & 20th century art.
 
Today, Weiss is a fervent supporter of contemporary art while continuing to represent secondary market works in his private Upper East Side gallery as well as participating in national art fairs. Besides acting as both artist agent and art dealer, Weiss is also considered a valued adviser to museums and institutions on both acquisitions and exhibitions.
 
He is currently serving on the National Advisory Board of the National Museum of Women in the Arts located in Washington, DC, and is the co-chair for its Greater New York Committee.
 
Weiss prides himself on being an artist as well as an art dealer. With over 30 years of experience in the profession, he prioritizes cultivating strong relationships with both his artists and his clients. An avid delegate for the arts, Weiss helped produce The National Art Show, a platform from which to support artists with disabilities.
 
Additionally, Weiss co-produced The Garland Appeal USA, inspired by the rich legacy of the late Linda McCartney in order to support breast cancer research. He has also hosted and co-hosted events for the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Middleburg Humane Foundation and Interlochen Arts Academy. Moreover, Weiss served as the sole juror at the 33rd Monmouth County Museum Annual Juried Exhibition in 2011.
 
As Chairman of the Advisory Committee and then a member of the Board of Directors for the Florence Academy of Art, Weiss deepened his interest in art education and the European art scene.
 
In recent years, he has been an active Trustee at the New York Academy of Art, and has worked with his fellow Board Members to raise the Academy's prominence in the national and international art community stating that, "we believe that rigorously trained artists are best able to realize their artistic vision. Academy students learn to master the traditional methods and techniques and are encouraged to use these skills to make vital contemporary art."
 
Curating exhibitions and collaborating with national art fairs on behalf of the school, Weiss is focused on broadening the awareness of Academy graduates.
 
Weiss is passionate about tailoring his knowledge and experience to create a one-on-one, finely tuned and personalized service for his clients at his by-appointment-only gallery in New York City.
